Leveraging Your EHR to Reduce Risk and Liability

November 13, 2019

Skilled nursing facilities operate in a highly regulated environment. This opens SNFs up to increased risk and liability.  In order to help reduce risk and liability, providers must have processes in place to ensure their documentation is accurate, timely, and consistent across disciplines.

This presentation discusses how providers can use their electronic health record to enhance consistency and accuracy through UDAs, increase compliance with protocols and procedures through order sets and order templates, and mitigate risk through electronic incident reports.  We will also review key information that attorneys look for when reviewing SNF documentation and how facilities can use their EHR to protect against litigation.

At the end of this presentation, you'll be able to:
  • Identify tools within their EHR system to help mitigate risk and liability
  • Discern how strong documentation can reduce the risk of litigation
  • Discuss strategies to improve documentation consistency across discipline
